Obituary of Blanche Shum Torrick

Blanche Shum Torrick, 104, of Waymart passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, July 13, 2016 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. She was the wife of the late John “Bert” Torrick. Born in April of 1912 in Alden Station, Luzerne County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Sophia Chimiel Shum. Blanche was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Waymart, and a retired seamstress of Waymart Knit Wear. She spent her later years living with her son, Ronald, where she enjoyed tending to her flowerbeds and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and fishing. She is survived by two sons: Ronald Torrick and his wife Lynn Ann of Waymart, and John Torrick and his wife Jean of Honesdale; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son, Daniel; sisters: Rose, Helen, Josephine, and Mary; brothers: Ignac, Isaac, and Frank; daughter-in-law, Cathy; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. from the Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart, celebrated by Rev. Joseph Sitko, Pastor. Friends may visit on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Monday in St. James Cemetery in Pleasant Mount.
