Obituary of Stuart E. Terrel
Stuart Edmund Terrel, 97 of Waymart Clinton Township died peacefully at home on Sept 2, 2018. He was one of ten children born to Edmond Conklin Terrel and Helen Elizabeth Fowler Terrel on May 30, 1921 at the family home. On October 2, 1954 he and Lois Mackle Terrel were united in marriage at the Honesdale Presbyterian Church by Rev. Stanley Lange.
Stuart was the oldest living member of the Clinton Center Baptist Church. Over the years, he had served as Trustee, Deacon, and Treasurer as well as a member of numerous committees. Many improvements were made to the church including a new kitchen, bathroom and well. Sunday mornings he could be seen going to church to turn on the heat, plowing snow, cindering the yard, shoveling and salting the walk, as well as cutting the lawn during the summer. He was instrumental in having a new roof put on the Church; a gift from the neighbor.
Stuart attended the Aldenville School and graduated from the Pleasant Mount Vocational High School in 1937. He stayed on the family farm and worked with his father until the farm was turned over in 1971 to Stuart and Lois. Stu loved Roundtop Farm and Jersey Cattle. The farm was a 50-year member of Dairymen’s League. He served as Secretary and President of the Aldenville Local as well as a delegate. In 2008, Stuart and Lois received the Pa. Jersey Cattle Association Distinguished Service Award at the Pa. Jersey Cattle Association Annual Convention. They received an Honorary Degree from Future Farmers of America in 1987.
Stuart was a director and President of the Clinton Center Cemetery Association and previously served as caretaker.
As Supervisor of Clinton Township, he served as secretary and delegate to the Pa. State Association.
If anyone asked Stuart to go places, he never refused. He and Lois went to Florida yearly with Rob, Barb and Dr. Robyn and spent numerous visits at State College and Virginia Tech. They traveled to California, Mexico, Canada, New England States, across the country with many visits to Detroit, Omaha, Boston to spend time with Rich, Beth and family.
Stu as he was known to many friends, loved to visit with young and old. He loved the outdoors and working the fields. In later years, interest turned to watching Bill doing the daily chores and discussing the daily activities. Reading was a favorite past time with history being his favorite. Family gatherings, dinners and holidays were enjoyed by all. His grandchildren made him so proud, as did his three boys. He made an impression on so many lives and will be sorely missed by all.
