Obituary of Josephine Pearce Mumford

Josephine Pearce Mumford, age 83, of Lafayette, Louisiana, formerly of Carbondale, PA, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2018.

She resided in Lafayette for the past 40 years.  Josephine was married to the late John Mumford who was from Carbondale, and she was the daughter of the late Leslie Pearce and Jennie Silsby, who also resided in Carbondale.

Before marriage, she worked as a buyer for the children’s department at Sugerman’s in Eynon, PA for 25 years.  Josephine married in June of 1977 and moved to Louisiana and worked for a local department store in women’s fashions for 5 years.  She enjoyed going for walks and was an avid book reader.

Josephine is survived by two first cousins and three step-children:  Richard A. Doney, Sr. of Honesdale, PA, Ardyce DeSalvatore of Oneonta, NY, Peter Mumford of Dayton, MN, David Mumford of Tucson, AZ, and Joy Mumford of Denver, CO.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc., Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Wendy D’Agostino of the First Presbyterian Church of Waymart officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Josephine’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale.

Private interment will be in Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, PA.
