Obituary of Dorothy McDonald

Dorothy McDonald, 89, of Waymart, passed away peacefully after an illness on Monday morning, January 28, 2019 at home.  She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 69 years, James D. McDonald.  They were married on February 25, 1950.

Born May 4, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Walter and Viola (Dietrich) Weiss.

Dorothy was a bus driver for Educational Bus on Long Island, New York for many years. Dorothy enjoyed ceramics, needlepoint and made many crafts throughout her lifetime. Above all, Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker; beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She loved her family more than anything, and will be forever missed.

Dorothy is also survived by three sons:  John and his wife Veronica of Lindenhurst, NY, Don and his wife Mary of Kitty Hawk, NC, and Dennis and his wife Margaret of White Mills, daughter-in-law Mildred; grandchildren:  Michele, Robert Jr, Alyssa, John Jr, Alison, Kyle, Colleen; great-grandchildren:  Callie, Nina, and Gabby; and a brother:  Robert Weiss and his wife Adrienne of Waymart, and faithful dog K.O.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert McDonald Sr; and a sister, Kathleen Pradon. 

A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 7:30 PM at Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc.-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Rev. William Rushik officiating.

Calling Hours will be on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 PM through the time of service, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Wayne Memorial Hospice, 601 Park St. Honesdale, PA 18431 or Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.

Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
