Obituary of Vivian McCormick

Vivian Pross Gardner McCormick, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Vivian was born on February 25, 1927 to Forest and Valeida Gardner in Scranton PA. One of four children, she spent her childhood in the Scranton area and was a graduate of Moses Taylor School of Nursing. Vivian married Joseph McCormick in 1950 and moved to Hatboro PA where they had 4 sons before moving to Rumson NJ in 1964 and settling there for the next 50 years of her life. She worked for over 20 years as a night nursing supervisor at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch NJ, retiring in 1989. She moved back close to her childhood hometown of Scranton PA in her final years. Vivian was known for her kind and loving heart, always willing to help her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time and planning dinners and barbeques for her children and grandchildren. Vivian had a love for reading and was an outstanding baker, specializing in apple and lemon meringue pie and the family favorite, 7 layer chocolate whip cream cake. She loved the beach at the Jersey Shore and traveled often after retiring, including annual road trips to Florida with her dear friend Rosemary Hulse. She was an active member of the Rumson Senior Citizens group, serving as president for several years, and loved planning special events, such as holiday bazaars, picnics and trips for the group. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rumson. Vivian also spent several years volunteering in the gift shop at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank NJ. After moving to Waymart, she joined the Waymart Presbyterian Church and senior group. Vivian was predeceased by her parents, Forest and Valeida Gardner, her husband of 40 years, Joseph McCormick, and brother, Kenneth Gardner and sister, Jeanette Groves. Surviving Vivian are her sister, Barbara Evans of Shillington PA; sons, David and wife Mary Ann McCormick of Massachusetts, Stephen and wife Diane McCormick of Maryland, Jeffrey and wife Elizabeth McCormick of Texas, and Randy McCormick of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew and their families, Justine and husband Nathan, Thomas and wife Marwina, James and wife Noelle, Tara and husband Kevin, Jennifer and husband Alex, Kyle and Brandon; and 7 great-grand children. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Private interment will be in Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel, New Jersey. Arrangements are entrusted to Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc.
