Obituary of Mary P. Schutt
Mary P. Schutt of Jefferson Township passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 13, 2021, one day before her 84th birthday. She was the wife of William Schutt.
Mary was born and raised in Seelyville, the youngest of Florence and Franklin Piercy's five children. Mary played basketball at Honesdale High School, where she graduated in 1955. She worked in food service at Western Wayne High School until her retirement. Mary's first calling was to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of the South Canaan Free Methodist Church and also attended the Elmdale Bible Church. She attended weekly prayer breakfasts and was a frequent guest speaker at other churches. Her second calling was public service, most recently through the Jefferson Township Fire Company and the Jefferson Township Lions Club. She valued her lifelong friendships and helped to plan both high school and family reunions. Mary loved the beauty of nature, gardening, parades, travelling far and wide for southern gospel events, and attending local concerts from fiddling to symphonies.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Bob (Orianna) Richards of South Canaan and Laurie (James) Zielinski of Jefferson Township, grandchildren Katie Ann and JJ Zielinski, siblings Arlene Hiller Seig and George Piercy, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Michael and Frank Piercy.
