Obituary of Antonette Terry
Antonette Bendyk Terry, 96, of Pleasant Mount, Pennsylvania entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday morning, November 14, 2021 at home with family by her side.
Daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Hutnyk Bendyk, she was born on June 14, 1925, at home in Pleasant Mount. After graduating from Pleasant Mount Vocational High School class of 1944, Antonette continued with her education by graduating from the Honesdale Commercial Business School. Employment followed in Newark, New Jersey as a “Temp” for General Electric Corp. She married the love of her life, Walter J. Terry on May 28, 1949 in Saint Basil Orthodox Church, Simpson, PA. Toni, as referred to by family and friends, worked on their dairy farm in Pleasant Mount and spent her years making a warm and loving home for her husband and seven children. Toni’s generosity was well known as she welcomed family, friends and neighbors at any time into her home. She enjoyed gardening and would spend summers canning, freezing fruits and vegetables and making fruit jellies. In her spare time she enjoyed polka and square dancing, crocheting, sewing, quilting, cooking, reading and writing letters. Later Toni joined the Pleasant Mount Women’s Bowling League sponsored by Agway and was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Toni also volunteered for the Pleasant Mount Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was certified in first aid. She was also a member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Union Dale, PA and served on its council. She did anything she could for her church to include chief cook for the church’s annual dinner/dance functions. After 29 years of marriage Toni was preceded in death by her husband who passed on March 6, 1979.
After Toni retired from farming, she wintered for over 30 years in Lake Worth, Florida, where she took classes in quilting, computer operations and stained glass making. She made many friends in Florida. For several years she gladly accepted the responsibilities of Secretary in her condo homeowners association and volunteered twenty hours per week at the Lake Worth Senior Citizen Center Thrift Shop.
Survivors include her children, John of Wellsboro, PA, Catherine and her husband Denis of Basking Ridge, NJ; Walter and his wife Brenda of Pleasant Mount; Dorothea and her husband Robert of Pleasant Mount; Annette and her husband Paul of Lafayette Hill, PA; Martha and her husband Jack of Lansdale, PA; and Peter of Pleasant Mount. Grandchildren are Jessica, Andrew, Megan, Adam, Jacob, Amelia, Amanda, Rachel, Rebecca, Sarah, Walter, Stephen, Benjamin, Jonathon, Joseph, Matthew, Bridget, Valerie and Thomas, several great-grandchildren, Godchild Barbara and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Stephen, John, Walter, Paul and Joseph, and her sisters, child Mary, Anna, and Helen.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 16 at 10 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 2112 Belmont Turnpike, Union Dale, PA.
Visitation will be from 9-10 AM in the church on Tuesday.
Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Pleasant Mount, PA.
In compliance with PA guidelines, wearing of masks and social distancing are required during all services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church or the Pleasant View Cemetery Fund.
