Obituary of Maynard A. Stratton
Maynard A. Stratton, 80, formerly of Waymart, PA and Dunnellon, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Dayton, Ohio where he was receiving palliative care at the local VA hospital for several months. Widowed at a young age, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol L. (Shaffer) Stratton in 1971. He later married Thelma R. (Beam) until her death in 2020 after 47 years of marriage.
Born June 13, 1941 in Carbondale, Glynn and Beatrice (Wall) Stratton. Maynard grew up in Aldenville, and graduated from Waymart High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he went on to serve his country after graduation. For many years he owned and operated Stratton Farm Service and enjoyed longstanding friendships with many of the local farmers who called on him through the years. Maynard loved hunting with family and friends and always looked forward to spending time with those he loved. He was of the Baptist faith. Maynard enjoyed square dancing with Thelma. Combining both of their passions, they attended square dance campings throughout the states for many years. He was quick to lend a helping hand to family and friends alike and was also a talented craftsman, making numerous stained-glass pieces for all to enjoy.
Maynard is survived by his children: Dean Stratton and his wife Theresa of Waymart, PA, Mark Stratton and his wife Cindy of Dayton, OH, Laura Rowland and her husband Ken of Honesdale, PA, Jay Stratton and his wife Jess of Hawley, PA; Janice Snyder and her husband Bill of Gouldsboro, PA, Judy Spewak of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Lee Bender of Waymart, PA, 17 grandchildren: Kirsten Stratton, Cory Stratton, Ryan Stratton, Brandon Stratton, Angelia Floyd, Stephanie Loscig, Nichole Yannone, Brittany Aleckna, Brandi Stratton, Tyler Pino, Leah Zawisky, Shane Enslin, Kevin Enslin, Billy Snyder, Joshua Snyder, David Spewak, and Zachary Spewak; a sister, Judith Sabo of Dunnellon, FL; his aunt, Alberta Gaylord of Aldenville; and several great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 4:00 PM in the Aldenville Baptist Church, 971 Creek Drive, Prompton, PA 18456 (Aldenville).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maynard’s memory to the Aldenville Baptist Church.
Interment will be private in Aldenville Cemetery.
