Obituary of Tom Q. Moore

Tom Quest Moore, 89, of Waymart, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2022. He was born on October 5, 1932 to the late Cecil and Rose Moore. In 1940, he was evacuated to the U.S to escape the war. He and his twin sister, Pamela, lived in Stratford, Connecticut for five years before returning to England in 1945. After completing schooling, Tom (or TQ as he was often called) returned to the U.S. to attend university and start his long career with the YMCA. Through his career with the Y, Tom left a legacy touching many lives. As an executive in the camps, he held people to a high standard and alumni define him as a legacy, true friend and mentor. He left a legacy in the camping world and a far greater legacy in his children and grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted father who was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Tom was an active member of his community. He was a member of the South Canaan Free Methodist Church and the Honesdale Rotary Club. He was a regular volunteer at the Dorflinger Museum. Previously, he drove for the Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps. A man who had many interests, he really enjoyed his fishing trips in Maine with his friend and mentor, the late Dick McNulty. Throughout his life, TQ was in touch with his fun side. He always had a joke ready, shared ghost stories around campfires and sang silly (camp) songs. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Arlene Ericson; children, Jennifer Boyden (Mark), Heather Lewis, and Brandon Moore (Iryna); his sister, Sylvia Booth (David); sister in law, Jane Moore (wife of the late Stuart Moore); and his grandchildren, Kaitlin and Tyler Boyden, Preston and Riley Moore, and Gabrielle and Danielle Lewis; former wife, Harriet Moore; he is also survived by his dearly loved 12 nieces and nephews; and the entire extended family. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the South Canaan Free Methodist Church, 19 St. Tikhon's Road, Waymart, PA 18472. In addition, each YMCA camp will hold a celebration of life organized by alumni. In lieu of flowers, donations for a campership may be made to one of the three YMCA camps he was so deeply dedicated to: Hi Rock: (https://operations.daxko.com/online/2048/OnlineGivingDonation.mvc?camapign_id=15217), Mohawk, or Speers; the South Cannan Free Methodist Church; Rotary; or the local charity of the donor's choice with which they may be involved. Arrangements are entrusted to Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
