Obituary of Protodeacon Michael Malanowski

Protodeacon Michael Malanowski, 75, fell asleep in the Lord on January 19, 2022. He was born Francis Stanley on December 26, 1946, in Erie, PA, to Francis S. and Martha (Schwieger) Malanowski. He was the oldest of seven children. He attended St. Stanislaus School from 1954 to 1961, and East High School from 1961 to 1965 graduating in June 1965. Protodeacon Michael was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Viet Nam War Era, having served from April 1965 to May 1971, with overseas duty on the U.S.S. Independence (CVA-62) from Sept.1967 till May 1971. He attained the rank of Data Systems Technician Second Class. He attended Jamestown Community College from 1972-74 graduating with a Computer Programming degree with High Honors. He was employed by the TRW Bearings Division, Jamestown, N.Y., from 1974-81 as a Programmer, and Senior Programmer. He worked at the General Electric Co., in Erie, PA as an Information Systems Specialist from 1981-1986. In 1986 he moved to Florida working for: Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich Inc. Orlando, Florida from 1986-89; Cincinnati Bell Information Systems in Maitland, Florida as an analyst from 1989-94; as a contract programmer for Analysts International Corporation from 1994-1995; PaySys International, Inc. in Maitland, Florida were was employed as a Technical Specialist from 1995-2000; Harcourt Inc. from 2000-2001 as a Senior Programmer Analyst; Fiserv Orlando, Inc. in Heathrow, Florida, as a Lead Programmer Analyst from 2001-2008 retiring in December 2008. On Pascha 1978 (April 30) he, his wife, and daughter Andrea were chrismated into the Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Jamestown, New York. After moving to Erie, Pa,he attended SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Crossingville, PA where he enrolled in and successfully completed the Late Vocations Program in Orthodox Theology for the Holy Diaconate administered by the Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania of the Orthodox Church in America on June 14, 1986. With the blessing of Archbishop Kyrill, he was tonsured Reader by Bishop Timothy of the Greek Archdiocese of North and South America at Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church in Jamestown, New York on April 13, 1982. He was ordained Sub-Deacon by Archbishop Kyrill of the Diocese of Western Pennsylvania, of the Orthodox Church in America, at SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Crossingville, on October 6, 1985. He was ordained a Deacon by Archbishop Dmitri of the Diocese of the South, of the Orthodox Church in America, on January 18, 1986, at the Orthodox Church of St. Stephen and elevated to Protodeacon by Archbishop Dmitri on September 28, 2003. Protodeacon Michael actively served the church as a deacon 35 years. Family members include his wife of 47 years, Gloria Ann Anderson, whom he married in Jamestown, NY on August 3, 1974; Children Andrea, Michael, and Fr. Stephanos of St. Tikhon’s Monastery; Preceded in death by his parents. May Protodeacon Michael’s memory be eternal! The Family is requesting donations in lieu of flowers: St. Stephen's Orthodox Church will be taking a collection for Protodeacon Michael’s funeral expenses, costs for transporting his body to St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Cemetery, and upcoming care for Matushka Gloria. $15,000 is needed.
