Obituary of John W. Schweinsburg
John W. Schweinsburg, 83, of Cicero, New York passed away on Tuesday morning, August 16, 2022 at home, after an illness. His beloved wife, the former Dona K. Thorpe survives him. They were married nearly 56 years.
Born on March 05, 1939 in Greenport, New York, he was the son of the late William and Evelyn (Robinson) Schweinsburg.
John was raised in South Canaan and graduated from Lake Consolidated High School in the Class of 1957. He soon joined the United States Navy and served four years, most of which was in the Mediterranean. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began dating Dona; they were married on October 15, 1966 and began what would be a beautiful life together. John and Dona moved to Syracuse, New York where John worked in the construction industry for a brief time. He went on to become a successful and well respected business owner after he purchased S & S Tractor Parts, Inc. in Marcellus, New York. John enjoyed a long career of 44 years owning and operating the business until his health caused him to retire.
He was a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge #524 in Marcellus, NY. John was part owner of a Supermodified race car which he enjoyed for many years. He was fond of gardening, reading, and traveling. John loved his dogs dearly, but most of all he loved his family. He will be missed.
In addition to his wife Dona, he is also survived by two sons, John Schweinsburg Jr. and his wife Sue of Central Square, NY, and William Schweinsburg and his wife Lisa of North Syracuse, NY; three brothers, Raymond Schweinsburg and his wife Margaret of Polson, Montana, Fred Schweinsburg and his wife Nancy of Lake Ariel, and David Schweinsburg and his wife Susan of Lake Ariel; and sister-in-law, Elaine Schweinsburg; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Schweinsburg.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc. in the Jenkins-Howell Chapel, Edward R. Howell Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
Calling hours will be on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in the East Canaan Cemetery, South Canaan.
