Obituary of James L. Smith

James L. Smith, 53, of Waymart passed away at home on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of the former Joyce L. Roberts. Born January 6, 1969 in Honesdale, he was the son of Gene and Carmelita (Grecco) Smith of Waymart, who also survive him. Jimmy was a 1986 graduate of Western Wayne High School. Many of his close friends knew him best by his nickname, "Suey." He and Joyce married on May 16, 1992. Jimmy loved hunting, especially with his son. He enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and being outdoors, particularly in the quiet of nature on Smith Road. Before his illness, he was employed at Integrity Trailers in Carbondale. Jimmy had a dry sense of humor, and loved to get a rise out of others, especially his wife. Jimmy was fond of being in his garage and working on small engines and all kinds of machinery. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Jimmy made many memories with friends and family while playing darts, horseshoes, bowling, and pool. He will be remembered for the love he had for his son Spencer and the joy he experienced in being a dad. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his beloved son, Spencer Smith; his brother, Lewis Smith and his wife Kim; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large extended family. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM in The Waymart Church, 596 Honesdale Road, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Sal Maiorana officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 4-7 PM in The Waymart Church. Arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. www.JenkinsHowellFuneralHome.com
