Obituary of Edward "Hopper" Bellas

Edward “Hopper” Bellas, 90, of Curtis Valley, Waymart, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, September 28, 2022 with his beloved wife, the former Martha E. Clark by his side. Born June 30, 1932 in Simpson, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Mehalco) Bellas. Ed was a well-known plumber in the local community for many years. His passions were fishing and hunting and being in the great outdoors. He planted and harvested many large vegetable gardens throughout his life and was a tender steward of nature of animals. More than 50 years ago, Ed and Martha began their enduring and loving life together. They were partners for 10 years and were married for 40 years. Always one to encourage others, he was known to say, “You can’t say you don’t know how to do something unless you’ve tried it.” In recent years, he would tell folks who questioned his aged ability, “I was young once…. were you ever old?” Ed is also survived by his children, Patricia Ann Bellas, Edward Bellas and his wife Lisa, Neal Bellas and his wife Yvonne, Narda Loomis, and Alisea Wahy and her husband Joseph; and seven grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Bellas; and a sister, Margaret Wishnisky. Following cremation, Graveside Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Private interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Honesdale, PA. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Wayne Memorial Hospice for the loving care and support they provided. Arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
