Obituary of Peter E. Wilken

Peter E. Wilken, 82, of Honesdale, passed away on Saturday morning, October 22, 2022 at Bethany Village. His wife of 59 years, the former Nancy L. Harder preceded him in death on October 3, 2019. Peter was born in Rhinebeck, NY and was the son of the late Walter and Thelma (Weaver) Wilken. He was raised in Red Hook, NY, and graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1960. In his younger days, he was active in 4-H shows with his beloved Guernsey heifer, Snowflake at the Dutchess County NY Fair. Peter worked for over 60 years in the Agriculture Industry, notably GLF and Agway. He was an active member of the Honesdale Masonic Lodge #218, the Anthony Wayne Royal Arch Chapter, and the Wayne-Pike Shrine Club. He was involved in the Dairy Promotions Committee, the Grange, and 4-H. Peter was an active member of the Honesdale High School Friends of Football Booster Club. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale, where he worked many pancake suppers and served as a Head Usher. Peter is survived by three wonderful children: Brian Wilken and his wife Emily of Honesdale PA, and their sons, Benjamin and Zackary; Heather Shook and her husband Brian of New Tripoli, PA, and their son, Michael; and Judy Duerr and her husband Matthew of Bath PA, and their children, Samuel and Hannah. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 12:00 Noon in the Wesley Room at the Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Pastor Eric Funk officiating. A Masonic Funeral Service will precede the funeral at 11:30 AM. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:30 AM in the Wesley Room on Saturday, November 12. Interment will be private, at the convenience of the family in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Peter's memory to The Shriners Hospital for Children. Arrangements are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc.
