Obituary of Lois M. Terrel

Lois Mackle Terrel, 93, of Waymart, Clinton Township, died Saturday morning, January 14, 2023 at home. Her husband of 63 years, Stuart E. Terrel preceded her in death on September 2, 2018. They were married on October 2, 1954, in the Honesdale Presbyterian Church by Rev. Stanly Lange. Lois was one of six children born to Bruce Stocks Mackle, Sr. and Madeline (Okowitz) Mackle on July 22, 1929 at the family home in Seelyville, PA. Lois joined the Prompton Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, was active in Young People’s, and taught Sunday School. After marriage, she attended the Aldenville Methodist Church until the church merged with the Bethany Methodist Church. She then became a member of the Clinton Center Baptist Church, which had been Stuart’s home church. At Clinton Center, she served at dinners, served on numerous committees, chaired the 150th anniversary of the church, and was Church Clerk for 15 years. Lois graduated from the Honesdale High School, with honors, in 1947 and started employment at the Honesdale National Bank. At HNB, she began as a clerk, went on to work in every department at the bank, and finally ended up the Assistant Trust Officer. Deciding to be a stay at home mom, she resigned from these duties. Later, Lois began part time employment at the First and Farmers National Bank, in Forest City, Pa. as the bank’s General Ledger Bookkeeper. In 1971, the family farm was turned over to Stuart and Lois where Stu continued the family tradition. Roundtop Farm and Jersey cattle were loved by all. Bill continues the operation of this 5th generation family farm. The farm was a 50-year member of Dairymen’s League. In 2008, Stuart and Lois received the PA Jersey Cattle Association Distinguished Service Award at the PA Jersey Cattle Association Annual Convention. They received an Honorary Degree from Future Farmers of America in 1987. For many years, Lois was active in the Wayne County Cancer Society, serving as director and secretary, and served as delegate to the PA Cancer Society annual meeting in Hershey, PA. Lois was secretary to the Clinton Township Board of Supervisors for 44 years. Numerous courses were taken during this tenure. Lois served as delegate to and attended the PA State Association of Township Supervisors Annual Convention for several years. Yearly visits were made to Florida with Rob, Barb and Dr. Robyn and numerous weekends were spent at State College and Virginia Tech. Travel was enjoyed to California, Mexico, Canada, New England States, and across the country with many visits to Detroit, Omaha, Boston and Doylestown to spend time with Rich, Beth and family. Family gatherings on Roundtop, dinners and holidays were enjoyed by all. Lois and Stu were very proud of the three boys and their grandchildren. Lois loved entertaining by cooking, baking and using vegetables from the garden. The door was always opened for guests. Lois is survived by sons: Robert and wife Barbara, Honesdale, William, on the family farm, and Richard and wife Elizabeth, Doylestown; grandchildren, Dr. Robyn (Brock Hite), Ryan, Shannon, and Bridget; a great-grandson, Hudson Robert Hite; step-grand-children; Kimberly (Patrick) Daniels, Bradley (Kristi) Bellen; step-great grandchildren, Mitchell Daniels, Nicole Daniels, William Bellen, and Kathryn Bellen; a sister, Jean Zebrowski; sisters-in law, Carolyn Mackle, Madeline Barton, Clara Plucknett; and brother-in-law, Edmund Terrel.
