Obituary of Mary Ann Salak

Mary Ann Salak, 74, of Waymart, passed away Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017 at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a brief illness.  She is survived by her husband, Francis A. Salak.  They celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 1, 2016. 

Born May 21, 1943 in Sterling, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Kromko) Pruss.

Mary Ann graduated from Community Medical Center’s Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse.  Her nursing career began at Wayne Memorial Hospital and she later worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, which later became Marian Community Hospital.  Upon retirement, Mary Ann worked part-time at Wayne Woodlands Manor.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church in Waymart.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading newspapers, and helping people.  In recent years, she devoted her life to caring for her beloved husband throughout his illnesses. She will be remembered for her love, devotion and compassion she shared with everyone she knew.  She was especially fond of the time she spent with her grandchildren, whom she greatly adored. 

She is also survived by three children:  Sharon Scarangelli and her husband Anthony of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Michael Salak and his wife Dina of Greenville, SC, and Gary Salak and his wife Maria of Roaring Brook Twp., PA, seven grandchildren:  Dominic, Gianna, Nicholas, Hanan May, Noah, Parri, and Ella; four brothers:  Anthony, John, Joseph, and Francis; and two sisters: Rose and Ann.

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00 A.M in St. Mary’s Church, 242 Carbondale Rd. Waymart.

Friends and family may call on Saturday morning from 8:00 – 9:00 A.M. at Jenkins Funeral Home – Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.

Burial will be Saturday in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
