Obituary of Mary Cavage Valeski

Mary Cavage Valeski, 93 of Waymart died Friday evening at home after an illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Valeski in 1992.

Born March 30, 1924 in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Fox) Cavage.

Mary graduated from Waymart High School and later married Walter in 1945. A faithful Christian, she was a member of St. Mary’s Church.  Mary worked for many years in the local garment industry where she was a seamstress.  She was a member and past President of the Waymart American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. Years ago, Mary delivered the Scranton Times Tribune and served as a substitute rural mail carrier for the Waymart Post Office.  She will be lovingly remembered for the pleasure she took in picking blueberries.  Mary also entered her crafts in the Wayne County Fair which included her beautiful loom rugs which often were awarded blue ribbons; she also enjoyed entering baked goods, floral arrangements, and crocheting. 

She is survived by four daughters:  Diane Keill of Worland WY, Maryann Mannick and her husband Donald of Canton, Patricia Woodworth and her husband Richard of Scranton, and Christine Cousin and her husband James of Waymart; three brothers:  Andrew, Anthony, and Valentine “Popsi” Cavage; a sister:  Joan Seibert; and a sister-in-law:  Nellie Cavage; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers:  Frank, who died in infancy, Joseph, and Louis Cavage; and one grandchild.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, Waymart.  All attending are asked to go directly to the church.  Family members are invited to join at the funeral home for prayers at 9:30 A.M.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Jenkins – Howell Funeral Home, Inc. 269 Belmont St. Waymart, PA.

Interment will be on Thursday in the Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners.
