Obituary of James R. Stanford
James R. Stanford, 70, of Waymart passed away on Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Joan E. Fox who was the light of his life. They were married November 14, 1981.
Born July 27, 1950 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Helen F. (Kenny) Stanford.
Raised in Philadelphia, Jim graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School, Class of 1968. He then went on to study at Penn State University. Early in his career, he worked for Gannett Fleming Engineering, and traveled all over the state. Jim enjoyed the outdoors; because of the beauty of this area, he came to Wayne County with Gannett and Fleming and boarded for many years in the home of Charlotte Blum. For a time, Jim worked for Bucconear Surveying. He went on to further his career by working as a Lineman, and then in the Facilities Department of Pennsylvania Power & Light from which he retired.
Jim will be remembered for his love of the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Hunting turkeys and going for a peaceful walk in the woods were among his greatest pleasures.
Jim is also survived by two sons: John Holevinski and his wife Kelly of Forest City, and Kevin Stanford and his partner Brian Bartnikiewicz of Scranton; his grandson, Garrett; and his siblings: Robert Stanford and his wife Marion, Helen Yost and her husband Rick, and Mary Jane Onslager and her husband Rick, all of Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services and Interment will be private, and held at the convenience of the family.
